Forge Mountain Horticulture was founded in 2008 by Jim Davenport and Greg Dahms, but their friendship was established in 1995 while attending Temple University in Ambler, PA. Greg graduated in 1999 with a degree in Landscape Architecture and had worked in the landscape industry for 10 years prior to a nursery sales career. Jim received his BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Temple University in 1998. Prior to that he also attended Clarion University where he received his accounting degree. He got his start in the landscaping field in 1985.

After graduating from Temple Jim was immediately employed as a sales representative by a large B&B tree and containerized shrub grower on the eastern shore of Maryland. Jim serviced areas that included parts of eastern Pennsylvania, New York and all of New England. Greg, after his graduation, became a buyer of plant material for a large commercial landscape contractor in the Philadelphia area. The relationship continued, this time as business partners with different companies.

In 2000 Greg eventually joined the same company as Jim in a sales capacity as well. Greg’s areas of service included Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. In 2008 Greg and Jim decided to leave their former employer and formed a relationship with Ruppert Nurseries who is one of the premier large tree growers on the east coast.
